Bluestone Promotions, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Bluestone, located in downtown Columbus, Ohio, has decided to no longer be involved with the promotion of 92.3 WCOL Country Jam. Bluestone Promotions has been the promoter for the event, held at Legend Valley Music Center in Thornville, Ohio, since 2013. The event brought central Ohio some of country music’s biggest stars, including Tim McGraw, Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Hank Williams Jr., Chris Young, and many more. The event has grown into a three day festival over Labor Day weekend bringing in excess of 21,000 country music fans to the Buckeye Lake area during each event.
“The team at The Bluestone has decided to concentrate on their core business this summer”, said Hank Straty, President and General Manager of the Bluestone. “We are concentrating the resources, normally spent promoting Country Jam, on continuing to build central Ohio’s love of country music in the downtown area of Columbus. While we have enjoyed promoting 92.3 WCOL Country Jam and building it into what it has become to date, we feel that our energy is better spent this year in the downtown Columbus area” said Straty.
While we are not sure what the plans are at WCOL for Country Jam it has been our sincere pleasure working with such professionals to help build this event into the “Legend” that it has become. Bluestone Promotions has truly enjoyed our relationship with WCOL and all of our partners at Country Jam for the past 4 years and we are excited to see what the future holds for this event.
No Toadlick in 2017
By Lance Griffin (Dothan Eagle)
Jan 31, 2017
"Toadlick, the music festival with the quirky name that experienced the highs of bringing top-tier acts to Dothan and the lows of severe weather for many of its festival days, won’t be back this year (2017).
Chris Gilbert, the festival founder and organizer, told the Dothan Eagle on Tuesday that the timing was right to announce the festival’s end.
“We had a heck of a run,” Gilbert said. “We’re going out on our own terms. We don’t owe anybody and a lot of music festivals can’t say that.”
Gilbert said no single factor influenced his decision. He said he found it increasingly difficult to devote the time necessary to make the festival successful while running his own construction company and other businesses as well.
“It takes a lot of time. It was cool having an idea and starting from scratch and watching it grow, but this is the right time,” Gilbert said.
Toadlick had a five-year run in Dothan. Among its headliners were Luke Bryan, Alabama and Hank Williams, Jr. It branched out to include non-country acts such as Kid Rock, Styx, REO Speedwagon and others.
It began with a spring date, but was continually beset by rain and thunderstorms. An intense thunderstorm with damaging winds tore through the festival in 2015, causing extensive damage and forcing the cancellation of several acts scheduled to perform. The event moved to June last year, added a second stage and included Chris Daughtry, the Charlie Daniels Band and many other acts.
The Dothan Area Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated the 2015 Toadlick Music Festival had a direct economic impact of $1.29 million on Dothan, and an indirect impact (ancillary benefits) of $3.22 million."
