"Tomato-gate" refers to a 2015 incident where a radio consultant, Keith Hill, compared female country artists to tomatoes in a salad, suggesting they should be taken out to boost ratings. This comment sparked widespread backlash from women in the country music industry, including Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, and Jennifer Nettles, who used the tomato as a symbol of protest.
