In 1969, the social event would be organized into what is now known as the Panhandle Watermelon Festival, led by former Washington County Extension Agent Red Davis.

“We always try to remember that our watermelon festival is part of our history, that it first was a celebration at the end of the year for those who helped in the fields,” said Peel.

About 100 people are thought to have been in attendance at the first event in 1956, and more than 5,000 attendees were estimated in 2015. The festival continues to grow every year!

June 25 - July 6, 2025 (Greeley, Colorado)
The Greeley Stampede remains committed to offering affordable, high-quality entertainment for our community celebration.

In recent years, we’ve faced rising costs for concerts, including artist fees and production expenses averaging well over $350,000 per concert. Looking at the music industry, many of the top artists in country music and other genres are now starting at $2,000,000 - $3,000,000 for booking.

To address these increases, we’re returning to a five-concert series to better utilize our resources while investing more into the concerts that fit our budget and business model as well as adjusting ticket prices.

June 27 - June 28, 2025 (Alton, Mississippi)

Mississippi River Festival is a celebration of music, culture, and community that echoes the vibrant spirit of its historic predecessor.

From 1969 to 1980, the MRF captivated audiences on the verdant campus of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois. Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, this iconic festival enchanted concert-goers with its unique blend of natural beauty and world-class performances.

Underneath the sprawling canopy of a circus-like tent, music lovers gathered to revel in the sounds of rock, folk, bluegrass, and classical melodies. From the legendary performances of The Who, Yes, and the Grateful Dead to the intimate moments shared with Jackson Browne and Bob Dylan, the MRF left an indelible mark on the memories of over one million attendees.

As we embark on this journey to revitalize the MRF, we honor its rich legacy while embracing the opportunity to write a new chapter in its storied history.
