Broadway Bars (400 Block)

Picture
Music can be found around every corner in Downtown Nashville and beyond. Music of every genre can be heard in and around "Music City USA". You never know where the next "superstar" will emerge. Who knows? With all these "celebrity" bars/restaurants popping up, you could just run into your favorite singer.

Keep in mind, that there are age restrictions on many of the bars around the city. I found a great article by Nashville Guru that addresses this issue. MORE INFO

Tootsies Orchid Lounge

422 Broadway
Nashville, TN
(615) 726-0463
In the land of a thousand Honky Tonks, Tootsie's remains Nashville's go-to destination for locals and visitors alike. Tootsie's has more music history per square inch than anywhere else in Music City.

'Mom's' was the original name of Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Tootsie Bess bought Mom's in 1960. She credits a painter with naming Tootsie's. She came in one day to find that he had painted her place orchid...thus the name Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.

Famous early customers were Kris Kristofferson, Faron Young, Willie Nelson, Tom T. Hall, Hank Cochran, Mel Tillis, Roger Miller, Webb Pierce, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline and many more. Performers at the Opry would sometimes sneak out the side door and grab a drink at Tootsie’s between sets.

In 1992, local businessman Steve Smith reinvested in Tootsies and is credited for part of the revitalization of downtown Nashville. Today, Tootsies is an international destination visited by locals and tourists alike. Tootsie’s is known for having the best local musicians and as a haven for some the world’s most popular acts. You truly never know who you may see on one of Tootsie’s three stages or hanging out on the rooftop patio.

421 Broadway,
Nashville, TN 37203

Country music superstar Alan Jackson is “Keepin’ it Country” down on Lower Broadway with AJ’s Good Time Bar.  Voted number one honky tonk in Nashville by Billboard Magazine, the bar carries on the tradition of the best downtown honky tonks with the kind of country music that made Nashville famous.  Just steps away from the historic Ryman Auditorium and within walking distance from the Country Music Hall of Fame, this venue features three multi-faceted floors and a roof top bar with the most stunning view of the city.

Housed in the oldest building on Broadway, this historical venue was once, among other things, a civil war hospital, Nashville's first used record store, and the home of the famous Bullet Records (a record label started in 1946 to record the stars of The Grand Ole Opry).  Today each floor offers a unique look into Alan’s career and personal life while featuring some of the best live country music in town, a great place to watch the game, and a stage where anyone can shine like a star when they sing karaoke.  If you're heading to downtown Nashville, make sure you stop by AJ's Good Time Bar, where "all the conditions are right for a good time."  Not only is this his place – it’s his kind of place.

Jack's Bar-B-Que was the first casual restaurant on Broadway to open after many years of decline on lower Broadway.

Some people say that Jack's Bar-B-Que started the first revitalization of lower Broadway. This free standing building poured out a steady stream of hickory-flavored smoke, drawing people from all over the world on their visit to Nashville.

Jack's Bar-B-Que was written up in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Southern Living, and USA Today as “The Best Bar-B-Que in Nashville, Tennessee”. As demand increased for Jack's Bar-B-Que he added a second location on West Trinity Lane and a third on Charlotte Avenue.
